For well over 20 years, scholars have researched disparities in educational institutions. Present a compelling post on the following questions, and respond to at least two of your group members’ posts:
1) What evidence supports that students’ experience of educational inequity (of any kind – economic, racial/ethnic, gendered, abled, healthy/unhealthy, etc.) is not coincidental?
2) Offer one critique of how deficit models of learning operate in American educational institutions. How might that model countered through a pedagogy of empowerment? Be specific.
3) As a social institution, how is education in conversation with the “American Dream”?
Make sure to incorporate relevant terms and conceptual frameworks. Feel free to include personal experiences in addition to evidence presented in the Modules. See attached for Chapter 12 readings
Guidelines for discussion boards
The general guideline is, for each discussion, you will be expected to post one substantial paragraph (250 – 300 words)
