Proposed Persuasive Argument (to help make an introduction paragraph)
I am arguing that Chinatown is a significant cultural institution in many United States cities that
should not be eradicated.
I will make this claim by demonstrating that Chinatown is a welcoming space for Chinese
American immigrants facing prejudice enable remarkable contributions to Chinese American
culture, and contributes to inter-generational unity within Chinese-American families today.
In order to counter the argument that Chinatown is inauthentic and isolates Chinese
immigrants from joining American society.
Draft Introduction (drafted from the format above)
Over the last two hundred years, an abundance of opportunities in the United States pulled
millions of immigrants from around the world to pursue their American dreams. Chinese
immigrants who came to the American land of opportunity faced oppressive legislation as
cultural differences led to the growth of anti-Chinese sentiment in the U.S. Therefore, racial
discrimination strongly united Chinese immigrants to form Chinatowns, where they were able to
protect themselves and support each other. There are arguments claiming that the cultural
decorations in Chinatown are not authentic and Chinatown isolates Chinese immigrants from
joining American society. Despite such criticism, Chinatown is a significant cultural institution
in many United States cities that should not be eradicated because it is a welcoming space for
Chinese American immigrants facing prejudice enable remarkable contributions to Chinese-
American culture, and contributes to inter-generational unity within Chinese-American families
today.
