Environmental Science is a huge, interdisciplinary field…. let’s get more familiar with it by meeting some of the scientists who have devoted their lives to studying the environment or solving environmental problems. Find an environmental scientist who particularly interests you- maybe their research is in a field that fascinates you or they work on problems you feel strongly about. Maybe you relate to their personal story.
Remember, environmental science includes conservation and wildlife, climate, water issues, marine science, agroecology and food security, pollution, environmental justice, energy and so many more fields! Look into areas that interest you. I’ve attached a pretty random list of brainstormed environmental scientists in case you need some help selecting someone (see the bottom of this page for the list).
Your assignment: spend some time reading about the environmental scientist you’ve selected. Write a page introducing your scientist making sure to include the following:
1) Who they are and what they study.
2) Where are they from- some background on where they grew up and how they became interested in their field (if you can find this)
3) What field of environmental science do they specialize in- are they a zoologist? a chemist? a social scientist?
4) What have they done? What are their major contributions to environmental science.
5) Why you chose them- what do you relate to about them/ what is important to you that you see in this person/ why they were interesting to you/
Anything else you think would be interesting to share.
