Investigate: Physically examine (6) toys (or games/apps) marketed for children (*see package for age ranges – try to get 2 per age range and 3 different age ranges). Evaluate this toy from a Psychological standpoint. Try to find one good toy and one poor toy per age range. *NO, you do NOT have to purchase the toy (unless you want to), simply look at it in the store. However, you SHOULD inspect them in hand (as opposed to just searching the internet. Toys can be quite different in person than their internet descriptions) take a photograph of it and include the photograph in your submission. (COVID PRECAUTIONS are understood! I am okay with a switch to an investigation of games/apps that you experience so that you might evaluate “toys” without having to leave your home. Please refer to the attached document for some of the specific items you should consider when investigating the toy. You are welcome to present these observations in summary form (a table or list is sufficient)
Analyze: You are being asked to engage in an applied, in-depth analysis of TWO of the above six “toys.” Please select at least one toy that is a QUALITY toy that you would recommend. This analysis will be based on applying class content pertaining to the physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional developmental theories. Remember, you are trying to display your command and application of course content! You may submit this portion as a list or in table format.
Physical: Consider which physical milestones a child at the suggested age range of the toy should be able to accomplish. Then analyze if the toy will help increase physical functioning or additional milestones – be specific of what physical abilities are improved, static, or decreased when interacting with this toy.
Cognitive: Consider which cognitive milestones a child at the suggested age range of the toy should be able to accomplish. Then analyze if the toy will help increase cognitive functioning or achieve additional milestones – be specific of what cognitive abilities are improved, static, or decreased when interacting with this toy.
Socio-emotional: Consider which social (interactions with parents/peers) or emotional milestones a child at the suggested age range of the toy should be able to accomplish. Then analyze if the toy will help increase social or emotional functioning or achieve additional milestones – be specific of what social or emotional abilities are improved, static, or decreased when interacting with this toy.
Work Product: Your target audience for either work product is future parents; please create accordingly.
Advertisement: You will need to create an advertisement (designed and created by YOU) that could be published in a magazine or FB ad. You will convey in your media why ONE of the analyzed toys should be purchased by your target audience and not other toys. This should include the physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional benefits of the selected item. You will need to cite your sources; this can be accomplished with a brief visual of utilized sources
