Hospitalization/ ED (Emergency Department)
Your final project is an individual-based project that is worth a total of 100 points.
Your final project is to write a research proposal for an HPSR study about your assigned health topic.
Your research study proposal should be from 3-5 pages, double-spaced, 12-point font NOT including the reference page. Your proposal must have the following sections:
Introduction (20 points): Describe what is previously known about your exposure and outcome. You must use references to support your claims. Why do you think your research study is important?
Explain why your study is a health policy or systems research study. Explain whether your study is policy research, policy evaluation, non-policy (intervention) research, OR non-policy (intervention) evaluation.
State your research question in PI(E)COT format. Explain what is you hypothesize the relationship between the exposure and outcome will be.
Methods (35 points): Choose a study design. Explain why you chose this study design for your research topic. Describe what is your target population and what is your sample. You must discuss ONE limitation and selection bias you might have because of any mismatch between your sample and the target population.
Describe what is your conceptual exposure, what is your operational definition of the exposure, what is your conceptual outcome, what is your operational definition of the outcome. Discuss ONE limitation and information bias you have because of any mismatch between your conceptual and your operational definitions of your exposure and outcome.
Your methods section must describe TWO possible confounders for your study. For full credit, you must explain why these covariates are potential confounders in the association between the exposure and the outcome in your study. You must use references to support your claims. Explain how you will examine whether there is confounding in your study.
Results (15 points): Design a Table or Figure for your research proposal. The information in the Table or Figure will be made-up by you. Your Table or Figure must be properly labelled. Describe what the Table or Figure is showing. Explain why you chose to create this Table or Figure for your study.
References (15 points): You must have ten references in AMA citation format. At least five of your references should be from a peer-reviewed public health or medical health journal. At least five of your references should be published in the last ten years.
Grammar, Spelling and Format (15 points): Please review your proposal for grammatical, spelling and formatting errors.
