Research Essay Prompt
For this assignment, you will use skills from the summary, critique, and review assignments to complete a research project in which you will inform your reader about a topic that is interesting or meaningful to you.
Instructions
You will select your own subject to write about. Choose a subject that is related, even if loosely, to an article or discussion that we’ve had in class. The subject can be related either by topic or theme. In this class, for example, we’ve read topics about technology and the methods that we use to communicate with it as well as a chapter about advertisements. Additionally, our discussions have focused on thematic issues associated with the articles, such as situations that divide us or cause misunderstandings as well as marketing strategies aimed at manipulating how we feel. There are other topics and themes that we have discussed as well. When choosing your subject, focus on one that you are interested in learning more about and one that reflects a topic or theme that has been brought up in class.
After you have selected a subject, review the slideshow, “Steps for Writing a Research Paper” (the slideshow is in the “content” section of Classes), and narrow the subject into a “single focus” topic. Then, create a research question about the topic and find four sources to help you to answer that question. Document those sources on the annotated bibliography worksheet (this worksheet is under assignments in Classes). Then, write a draft of the paper.
We will meet twice to discuss the research paper. The first meeting will focus on the development of the topic and methods for finding and incorporating sources into your paper. The second meeting will focus on feedback on the first draft. After you receive feedback on your draft, complete the final draft.
List of Activities
Throughout the project, we will complete a variety of exercises to develop a research question into an academic paper.
The development stages for this assignment will include the following activities:
Brainstorming
Proposal
Annotated bibliography
Two meetings with the instructor to discuss sources and the draft
First draft of the research paper
Peer review of draft
Final draft of the research paper
What Should be Included in the Paper
You will need a minimum of four sources. One source must be a primary source. All sources must be cited in MLA. Please include a “Works Cited” page.
The length should be around eight paragraphs long and include the following: an introduction, a conclusion, and a creative title

EDITING UK ENGLISH!!!
I have already completed it, I just need my writing edited to sound more academic
i have had to complete an assignment which is broken down into two sections, they are labelled part A and part B. In section A, i have had to complete a data anaylsis on excel figures. i need this to sound more academic and lesswordy. In part B, I have to complete a brand analysis and comparison. The main brand is ASOS and i am comparing it to BOOHOO. However, the main focus is on ASOS. i need this writing to sound more academic and more fluid. The word count for each section is 1500, totalling 3000. I have gone over the word count for PART A so I will need assistance cutting it down, and I am not over the word count for part B however if it feels like I am repeating myself/waffeling/using the incorrect academic language I would be really grateful for the help. Overall, I need my assignment to be edited with academic language and made to sound better. Thank you so much!

I attached examples of what the assignment is meant to look like
Guidelines:
You are required to submit a digital folio incorporating visual and written components:
You will identify a range of garments using appropriate terminology including, details, styling & finishing to create a visual & informative, well-written presentation with great attention to vocabulary and textile terminology. You will be able to characterise the different garment segments, categories, seasons and types and to demonstrate an intermediate knowledge of fabric, construction, fit and finishing methods, underpinned by sustainable considerations which will be demonstrated through your secondary research. You will assess the approximate cost of a garment from a photograph/sketch, explaining the general cost break down.
You will create a digital folio, containing information about the development process of your face mask, showing a minimum of 6 different garments using flat drawings sourced from WGSN and a spec sheet of one of your own garments.
You will show clearly in the folio your understanding of fibres, fabrics, garment construction, costing, finishing details, trade drawings and spec sheets.
You will link fabric suggestions to the folio to demonstrate the knowledge you have learned from the first assessment and see how you can build upon your learnings.
You will classify the garments according to the season, segment, category, type, fit and style and will be able to demonstrate your ability to develop trade/flat drawings and spec sheets with all the appropriate information.
You will present your Fashion Garment Folio digitally, containing maximum 2000 words & a minimum of 6 images of different fashion garments.
This is an individual assignment.
Please review the Assessment overview for further information.
Rationale (why?)
In this course, you will look at the essential ingredients of fashion construction & market identification. You will develop an in-depth understanding of the trims, finishing techniques, and construction details required for making a final assessment of the garments market level. In this second assignment, you will build upon the knowledge developed in the first assessment to provide a final fabric suggestion for each garment in the report.
As you research different garments, you will learn more about the manufacturing process and assess the environmental impacts of the product, also, you will use your secondary research to provide alternative sustainable options. By the end of the assignment, you will be able to understand the garment development process, from fibre to manufacturing, taking your knowledge of fabric cost and building upon that with the additional costs needed for completing a garment.

PART A – The Face Mask Journal
In this part of the assignment, you will be developing your own Face-Mask, from fabric selection to sewing. You should record (pictures/words/drawings/fabric swatches, etc) in a digital journal all the steps and processes carried out to manufacture your mask. The following steps are suggested:
Step 1- Research about Face masks, the different types of face masks, the effectiveness of masks for reducing transmission of COVID, etc – you can use “non-academic/grey literature” for this purpose, however, it is always good to find academic research. Discuss why the masks are required and important during this time and specify the requirements for this specific product.
Step 2- Watch the below video OR read the document available here: MIY Mask project.pdf and create the pattern for a face mask.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUXPqbLzMpk
Step 3- Select the fabric (s) and trims for developing your face-mask. Determine the criteria (THE WHY) used for this selection.
Step 4- Place the pattern on the fabric and analyse the best way to use of the fabric to reduce wastage. Please think about the cuttable with of the fabric (even if it is a “piece” of fabric) and correct use of the fabric (face and wrong sides, prints, weaving patterns, etc).
Step 5- Cut your face mask and manufacture it, this can be done by hand or by using a sewing machine. Please determine the advantages and disadvantages of the process selected. Record the time spent in each step.
Step 6- Create a flat drawing of the face mask. It can be done by hand or in CAD. If done by hand you can use the pattern to help you create the flat drawing. Please supply as many details as possible for the face mask (measurements, fabric details, trims details, etc.)
You can start the flat drawing of your face mask by finding a similar drawing in WGSN and modifying it in CAD.
Step 7- Determine the cost of your face-mask based on the time, materials, trims, etc. spent to develop it. Please record the time you spend doing each process as this influences the cost of the product.
PART B – 2 Mini collections
Step 1. Determine 2 garment segments/categories you want to explore. It will be great if you select segments/categories that are new to you!
Step 2. Find academic secondary information (use your RMIT online library- use IBIS world reports or other databases) regarding each of the segments/categories selected ie. Plus size and Resort wear, or, Fitness wear and Sleepwear, etc. and determine the characteristics of that segment/category: how big is this market segment? who are the main players? main type of garments? purpose of the segment/category, etc
Step 3. Using the WGSN flat drawings create a mini collection for each segment/ category. (For this, you gather images from WGSN). Determine season, type of garment, style, fit, etc. and then, find 3 garments that fit your criteria to create the mini collection.
Step 4. You are requested to create the flat drawings of each garment (6 in total). Remember to have front and back of the garment. Complete each flat drawing by specifying the different parts of each garment, trims and details of the garment (use the learning materials provided in week 6).
Step 5. Analyse each of the images selected and determine the fabric that will suit better each selected garment in terms of fabric composition, weight, width, fabric structure, fabric finish, garment construction (CMT woven, CMT knitted, fully fashioned, etc), garment finish, etc.
PART C – Garment specification sheet
Step 1. Select ONE garment from your wardrobe (WOVEN) and take a picture of the front and back sides of the garment in a flat surface.
Step 2. Take an image of the fabric and enhance it as much as possible
Step 3. Describe the garment in terms of garment fabric, fabric properties, garment construction, garment type, style, fit, garment finish, segment/category, season etc.
Step 4. Create a flat drawing of the garment. It can be done by hand or in CAD. If done by hand please use the templates provided to maintain the garment proportion. Please detail the garment as much as possible.
You can start the flat drawing of your garment by finding a similar garment in WGSN and modifying it in CAD.
If you are making your trade drawing by hand, the following video can help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KwvS9HLg7w
Step 5. Work out the estimated cost of the garment, based on the information provided in class and available on Canvas.
Step 6. Create ONE specification sheet for your garment (please complete the 6 parts of the spec sheet). Use the additional learning materials available to complete your spec sheet using the correct terminology.
