As was indicated early on in the semester, your final portfolio is a 3 to 4 page—825 to 1200 word—reflective (You can absolutely use the words “I” and “me”)/critical paper addressing the CORE COURSE QUESTION:
Should African American Studies remain a program or department in higher education? Yes or no to this question requires you to back up your argument with content from the semester.
Employing concepts, theorists, and work discussed throughout the semester, please be sure to back up your stance with a polished declaration representing not only what you’ve learned but how you will take that knowledge and apply it beyond this semester.
12pt Font/Double Spaced/3 to 4 pages (not including title or works cited page)/Standard one-inch margins -10 if not followed
***You must pull from, at minimum, 6 sources from the content provided. (THIS DOES NOT MEAN THERE ARE ONLY SIX CITATIONS)… meaning, include in-text citations when appropriate and works cited page. You can use any formatting style as long as it is consistent throughout. If you do not include in-text citations and works cited page I will not read the paper and you will receive a zero. Ask me questions if you are unsure of how to make this happen. Any other content can be added but will not be included in the six-count requested from the class content provided. Other students comments and slides from PowerPoints also DO NOT count in the required six sources.
This is a great site that will walk you through formatting if you do not want to talk to me:
(Links to an external site.)
These sources that you cite can be readings, clips, discussions, words from your fellow students, my lectures, or the PowerPoint. If it is not yours, CITE. You should be backing up your argument with content that is not yours and properly citing.
**What makes this a final portfolio as opposed to just a paper is that I would also like you to include your original piece a.k.a. Response Paper 1. You do not have to do anything to it, I just want to see the progression. Please NOTE that (RP1) is not included in the page count. Please make sure that your Portfolio starts with (RP1) -clearly marked- and then your final paper proceeds it. Ask questions if you are unsure of how to set this up.
Be sure to get the paper in by the deadline as I will not be accepting anything after (I have to get grades in by that Monday so please do not ask me if you can get it in later, you will just receive a “0”).
